Strengthening Maine’s Trauma-Informed Learning Community: Workforce Preparedness
In response to the mass casualty event in Lewiston late last year, CCSME has partnered with NAMI Maine and AdCare Maine with funding from SAMHSA to provide free trainings on evidence-based practices for trauma and grief treatment. These trainings are intended for clinicians treating victims or person affected by the events in Lewiston, or similar clients.

Course Offerings
Understanding Stress/Trauma Exposure & Personal Resilience/Stress Inoculation

The first portion of the training will discuss the impacts of stress and traumatic exposure resulting from a combination of internal and external factors can impact an individual’s well-being. The second portion will take an applied focus on understanding how to manage stress, with an emphasis on building and maintain resilience through cognitive approaches including stress inoculation.
Assisting Individuals in Crisis & Group Crisis Interventions
Oct. 7-9, 2025 | 8am-5pm | virtual
Intro to CISM | Critical Incident Stress Management, or CISM, is an intervention protocol developed specifically for dealing with traumatic events. It is a formal, highly structured and professionally recognized process for helping those involved in a critical incident to share their experiences, vent emotions, learn about stress reactions and symptoms and given referral for further help if required.

Psychological First Aid

This training provides public health professionals, emergency responders, and natural community helpers without former mental health education with the concepts and skills associated with psychological first aid. Additionally, this training is applicable to public health settings, the workplace, the military, mass disaster venues, and even the demands of critical incidents.

Skills for Psychological Recovery

This training offers SPR with a skills development approach, useful after the time when Psychological First Aid is utilized. SPR is designed to foster effective coping with post-disaster stresses by utilizing several core skill sets to promote the recovery of survivors, prevent maladaptive behaviors and prioritize a survivors’ resilience while focusing on individual needs and capabilities.

Knowing there is no health without mental health, StrengthenME resources aim to inspire hope and resilience. Services are 100% anonymous, low-barrier, and community-focused.Â

Maine Resiliency Center
The Maine Resiliency Center was established in the wake of the mass casualty event in Lewiston on October 25, 2023. We provide free community connection, support, and resources to those who are impacted by this tragedy.
