This brief, self-directed online course describes the opioids taken in overdose, discusses the evolution of the opioid epidemic, reviews statistics, and discusses the presentation and management of opioid overdose. Content includes the types of situations encountered, contribution of drug interactions to toxicity, concerns about tolerance, and dosing and driving, as well as appropriate expectations of the prescription drug monitoring program.
How it Works
After watching a video presentation by Karen Simone, PharmD, DABAT, FAACT, you will be required to take a short quiz. Upon receiving a grade of 80% or higher, you will be directed to a course evaluation. Once you have completed the evaluation, you will be able to download a .pdf certificate to get your course credit.

About the Presenter
About the PresenterDr. Karen Simone is the Director of the Northern New England Poison Center, which serves the States of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. She is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. Current interests in toxicology include enhancement of the collaboration between professionals working with patients who have coexisting substance abuse and psychiatry disorders, as it relates to poisoning.
